Know Thyself

The key ingredient to living with purpose.

We are living in a time in history where each of us has been called to be resilient in the face of many challenges and changes to our lives. Now we are emerging from the grip of this 100-year pandemic.

During our collective time in isolation, we had the opportunity to know ourselves in a way that we had not before. Faced with risk and danger to our lives and loved ones, we started to ask the big life questions. What really is important? What values and beliefs do I hold dear? What do I want to make possible for myself once the pandemic is over?

Creating or recreating a personal vision statement has never been more important. Thinking about the kind of person that we aspire to be and what kind of life we wish to lead can point us to our north star. Especially if we are feeling stuck. The distinction is who do we want to be versus what do we want to do. Aligning our core values with our life decisions helps to ensure that we live with meaning and purpose.

Crafting a bucket list of things that you want to do in your lifetime but have not yet begun or completed is another tool to get the juices flowing. Once the list is complete, group the items by theme and see what emerges. Creating a healthy list requires dreaming and imagination, free from self-limiting judgments.

Living a life with purpose thrives on self-reflection and intention. After all that we have been through to survive the pandemic, this seems like the least we can do to make the most of what of we have been given.
